RE: LANCE AIR BAGS

According to Lance's literature that I have read over the years, they have internal bump stops. I think Air-Lift makes them for Lance. On my Dodge, I installed Air-Lift bags. They replaced the bump stops and are almost COMPLETELY no drill; Unless you just ty-rap the fill valves. Tony

RE: New to me Lance 1025 w/ an issue

SO...FINALLY got to fixing the drain right and learned a few things: 1) Don't mess with the soft plastic drain pipes, and I am NOT referring to ABS, that are usually used for sink install, when plumbing a shower pan. Keep it all ABS. 2) Don't bother (unless you really have to) with the drain flanges from most RV dealers. For whatever reason, they don't seal well against commercially available ABS slip-threaded adapters. 3) For 1-1/2" ABS drain, use the rubber gasket available from Lowes/HD/Local harware store. 4) When plumbing ABS, take your time. Yes, the piping will dry fit and still be removable, so you can get exact sizing. And use the black ABS cement. 5) The ONLY place I could find ABS 1-1/4"x1-1/2" bushings, or any adapters for that matter, was at Ferguson's Plumbing supply Tony

RE: need to buy new air conditioner

I too am in need of an AC....my Lance does not have one. So, Im also interested in opinions of units that are out there. From what I've read, the 13.5k units cool off the camper quick, but may overload your generator. I am planning on an Onan 2500LP. Which, should be able to power 13.5btu AC units, but would not handle multiple appliances well (AC+microwave) The Coleman Polar Cub (9kbtu, IIRC) AC appears to be a good balance between capacity for a TC and generator load. Personally, I am not a big fan of Adventure RV. Good prices, but SLOW service. Tony

RE: Ideal Setup

I almost forgot.... A big advantage of a diesel is that turbo'd engines do NOT lose power at altitude like normally aspirated gas engines. Gas engines will make decent power, but at 5000 feet, it's common to lose 5-10% power. Turbo engines, diesels in particular, may lose 1-2%. Tony

RE: Ideal Setup

Let me dispel a few misconceptions: 1) Starting diesels in -20F weather is entirely possible in -20F weather. Particularly for '04 and newer diesels. If you have the need, there are diesel fueled heaters that will circulate water through the engine block, to preheat the engine (and cab). 2) While diesel fuel cost ~20% more than regular unleaded, diesel engines are >15% or more efficient than gas engines. 3) Diesel engines across the board will out-tow any comparable gas engine. This alleviates a LOT of driving stress, not to mention time. Imagine climbing a hill at 40mph spinning 4000rpm or 65mph spinning 1700rpm! Tony

RE: Truck camper weight

My Lance 1025 sticker reads 2800; Scale says 3200. That was with 1-2 gallons in each holding tank, about 10 gallons water, 2 full propane tanks, and misc clothes and dry foodstuffs. Tony

Tire Reccomendations

It's coming up really fast: Time to replace the factory AM General's on the Dually. I'm leaning towards the Michelin LTX's. They've been good to me in the past, with a 70k mile average. However, this is my first dually and wondering if the same average applies. I've considered going 19.5", but they just seem too expensive. Then there's the replacement issue, if you are out on the road during a weekend...replacements can be an issue. Looking for any and all opinions. TIA Tony

RE: Truck bed sheet metal tear

I too recall it was a dodge; Checked mine nad had no cracking. I have to disagree with the line-x suggestion. While it may bond with the painted surface, there is not much material there to add strength to resist tearing sheet metal. Instead, I suggest a 4x8 sheet of plywood and a bed mat. This helps to spread out the load and may keep the crack from spreading. Tony

RE: what MPG and at what speed?

If you thinking about going to a TC will save you fuel costs over the 5th wheel, you will be very disappointed. While I don't have a recon, I can confirm MPG with a cabover, Lance 1025 to be exact, is ~11, depending on wind and vehicle speed. So, the '06 CTD and Lance in my sig, at 70mph w/ cross wind and 1 big hill, gave me 11.0. Tony

RE: Torklift mounts & swingout jack

I noticed the same thing...After 400 miles of driving, I noticed the camper didn't move much and the clearance seemed to stay as well, so I think it's anon-issue. Tony

RE: Do you fear your TC being stolen?

Back in 1978/79, we had ours stolen out of an RV storage facility. We never saw it again. We always suspected it was someone at the crane company next door, but had no proof. I like Camo's idea about using the fastgun locks to impede someone from securing the camper to another truck. Tony
